Petrol Barrel
While working on the project: “Great service built objects Diefdijk”, emplyees of G. van der Ven BV Aannemingsbedrijf in Brakel encountered a very rare item.
The project, part of the Dutch Waterline, includes the restoration of 26 former military bunkers. The concrete of these shelters show cracks and have other damage. The locks and hinges of the doors and shutters are not working properly and where necessary will be restored, if not replaced. These bunkers are located in the dikes, between Lekdijk in Vianen and Lingebos the highway A15.
One particular bunker, Bunker; L1, was not accessible because it was caved and a concrete slab barred any access. After the concrete slab was removed, the door could open and inside was this gasoline barrel in excellent condition.
Employees of Aannemingsbedrijf G. van der Ven traveled to Deelen. After a welcome and impressive tour of all history in our museum, the gasoline barrel was handed over to the museum.
